Devica Urwick has lived in Greenville, NC since 1979, graduating from DH Conley High School in 1982 and from ECU in 1996 with a BA in Nursing. She is wife to Chris and mother to Adam (18) and Aubrey (26), whom she has homeschooled over the past 18 years, graduating Aubrey in 2006 and Adam in 2013.
Devica has a passion for healthy lifestyle and wellness education, especially where it pertains to food & fitness. She loves talking with people one-on-one about whole foods and their health challenges. She has taught classes on eating whole foods and cooked for small groups.
The drive for “Real Food” the way God intended us to raise and consume our world’s bounty, and helping others make those changes, led to wanting to provide a tangible way for people to pursue eating healthier…thus Spring Run Market was born in 2009!
Spring Run Market has served as the area’s first local/organic food outlet through an online virtual market and a Saturday open-air. Devica has, with her family’s help, made Spring Run a success for not only providing an easy access for these foods, but helping to pave the way for Greenville to cease being a “Food Desert” and grow the movement for eating local/organic foods for this area!
Devica, along with the help of her family , her farms, and her friends will be launching a city-wide marketing campaign for Greenville’s first organic co-op! Her vision is to provide a facility with three services integrated in one place: an organic local market/co-op; a “wellness through food and fitness” education center; and a locally-sourced seasonal café with kitchen incubator for new local food businesses! With the help and support of the community, catch her vision coming to fruition by 2014!
